AK THEATRE HANDBOOK FOR STUDENTS AND PARENTS
GENERAL AUDITION INFORMATION
-
Students will be required to prepare a monologue and/or read from the script (cold read) for a straight play. For the musical, they should prepare a song and will learn a dance at auditions.
-
Each audition usually consists of an initial audition and a callback.
-
Students should look for audition information in the following places:
-
callboard outside Ms. Calvert’s room
-
posters around school
-
website
-
-
Students should consider their goals, commitments, and priorities prior to auditioning
-
It is expected that students are auditioning for all parts in the show, and will accept any role that they are offered unless they have indicated otherwise on their audition sheet.
-
The cast list will be posted on the callboard, generally the day after callbacks. It also may be posted on social media after roles have been accepted.
-
All casting decisions are final.
-
Any student who has questions about their casting or making an improvement for future auditions should send an email to the director.
-
Unfortunately it is just not possible to give every student who auditions/applies for tech, an opportunity to work on every show.
Parents are encouraged to talk to their children about managing disappointment, but should not contact a director to question the casting of their child.
Tech Crew POSITIONS
-
Each show will have an application for the tech crew.
Selection Criteria:
-
Ability to perform the role as reflected in previous endeavors
-
Ability to communicate and coordinate with peers and directors
-
Ability to remain on task and complete projects
-
Ability to attend crew calls, rehearsals and performances
CAST AND CREW SHOW CONTRACT
-
Students will be given ample notice of scheduled rehearsals, performances, and activities so that conflicts are minimal.
-
We try to only call the cast and crew when we need them so that they are not at rehearsal unnecessarily.
-
Rehearsal schedules will be found on the Band app. Once your child is cast, they should join the app and fill out the parent email information so that we can add you to our communication list.
-
All parents will be given information through emails.
-
If your child is cast in a production and you are not receiving emails please email in order to be added to the list.
-
All rehearsals will take place between 2:30- 5:30pm Monday through Friday with an occasional Saturday.
-
Tech rehearsals the two weeks before the show will last longer than 5:30 (generally until 7:00pm.).
-
Students must attend all rehearsals they are called to for the entire time.
-
Students must be on time and ready to work at every call.
-
Students must stay in the designated rehearsal area.
-
Students must be prepared for your specific duties at each call, rehearsal, and performance.
-
Students must report all absences in advance to the stage manager.
-
Students who do not notify SM of absences, or who have excessive absences may be removed from the crew/cast.
-
